Club Rules and Guidelines

Judo Etiquette and Discipline

In keeping with the traditions of Judo, you are expected to bow in and out of the hall, on and off the mat, and to your partner and instructors. Respect must be shown to the instructors and to your fellow participants. Finger and toenails must be kept well cut and jewellery and watches may not be worn on the mat. Girls should wear a plain white round neck tee shirt under their Judo jacket. Judo slippers (zories) or flip-flops should be worn off the mat and left at the edge of the mat during practice. Judo is a close contact sport so please ensure that both you and your judo suit are clean. For your own safety and that of others you are expected to pay attention and obey instructions immediately.

Kobushi Judo Club Rules

Kobushi Judo Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well being of all its members. We believe that it is important that members, coaches and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with one of the Club Instructors.

As a member of this club you are expected to abide by the following rules:

	All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.
	All members must respect opponents.
	Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
	Members must wear suitable kit, the wearing of hard or metallic objects is prohibited whilst training or competing and appropriate footwear should be worn to the mat edge from the changing rooms.
	Female members should also wear a plain white Tee shirt under their Judogi top.
	Members must pay any fees for training or events promptly.
	Members are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions.
	Members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.

Kobushi Judo Club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity:

Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.

The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.

The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.

All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.

The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures.

Kobushi Judo Club Code of Conduct for Parents and Guardians

	Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
	Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
	Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
	Never force your child to take part in Judo.
	Set a good example by recognising fair play
	Applaud the good performances of all.
	Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
	Publicly accept officials’ judgements.
	Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their Judo.
	Use correct and proper language at all times.

British Judo Council Equal Opportunities Policy

Judo is a contact sport involving a high degree of physical activity and control. Whilst it is conceded that there are some for whom practicing judo would be physically impossible, the British Judo Council is committed to encourage and facilitating the opportunity for individuals to participate in judo and/or the judo community in the wider sense.

To that end, no person shall be denied an opportunity to practice judo, compete, be graded or otherwise participate in British Judo Council activities by reason of their sex, race, sexual orientation, religion, race or political affiliation.

To the extent that such can be achieved safely, no person should be discriminated against by reason of their age or disability.

It must, however, be recognised that at some events, opportunity will be limited by the lack of appropriate people with whom an individual can safely participate. The overriding obligation shall always be to ensure that individuals are permitted to practice in a safe environment as the sport permits.
